So to get things kicked off on the right foot, why not throw a crawfish boil? After all, a crawfish boil is as American as hot dogs and apple pie, only a lot more fun to eat! If one has never hosted a boil then this may sound a bit intimidating. But what exactly is necessary to have a successful party is pretty simple. Crawfish, a table, and buckets of beer! You will want to order at least 3 pounds of live crawfish per person. A good rule of thumb for purchasing food for a crawfish boil is to count on 60 pounds of crawfish feeding 15 – 30 guests. A few days before your crawfish boil, make a list. You will want to make sure you have good paper products on hand. Do not forget newspaper to line the serving table with. You will also need propane for the grill, a large pot (like really big) and an equally large stick or paddle to stir the pot. Plan to order or reserve the crawfish ahead of time, so that on the day of your party, you can just go pick up your crawfish. On the day before you do your shopping. Be sure to also pick up corn that is still on the cob, a big bag of potatoes and onions. You will toss all of this into the boil along with your crawfish seasonings. Make sure to pick up cold beer and lots of ice! You could also include watermelon or other melons as a dessert. The sweetness of the melon is a great contrast to the spices and heat of the crawfish boil seasoning. When your guests start to arrive you will want to be ready to start cooking. Place the large pot on your burner, fill it with your seasonings, and a healthy amount of beer. The first thing to add is the potatoes as these will take the longest time to cook. Add the crawfish at the last minute. When the cooking is done, drain the basket and pour down the center of a newspaper-lined table. This is the exciting part! You can put the food in several Styrofoam containers lined with foil if you don't have a long table. Then holla out to the guests that the crawfish boil is ready to devour. |
